On that day, afternoon leftover Spinach Vegetable was available and in evening I felt hungry and thought to make something very quick, tasty and different, so I used that ready spinach vegetable for making these balls. You can use fresh Spinach too, and for that, you need to chop and boil the spinach very well, squeeze whole water and then grind and mix it with paneer, tofu or boiled potatoes.

Rinse the Spinach Leaves, Boil with some salt and make a puree out of it.Spinach Cheese Balls Recipe Step 1In a bowl, mash the boiled potatoes and add crumbled Paneer and cooked Spinach.

Spinach Cheese Balls Recipe

Spinach Cheese Balls Recipe is the popular Indian Snack dish, fully power packed, made with Spinach (Palak), Boiled Potatoes, Paneer and Processed Cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cooked spinach (palak)
  • 6 boiled potatoes (aloo)
  • 6 cubes of processed cheese
  • 2 tbsp crumbled paneer
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp ajwain (carom seeds)
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds powder
  • 1/2 tsp dry mango powder (amchur)
  • 2 tbsp whole wheat bread crumbs (optional)
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Take a big bowl and mash 6 boiled potatoes in it. Add 2 tbsp of crumbled paneer and mix well.
  2. Add cooked spinach,1 tsp red chili powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp ajwain, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds powder, 1/2 tsp dry mango powder, some whole wheat breadcrumbs and salt to taste. Mix all the ingredients very well and keep aside.
  3. Heat good amount of oil in a frying pan and till the oil reaches at about 170 degree C, grate 6 cubes of processed cheese and keep aside.
  4. Divide the mixture into 12-15 equal portions and shape each portion into a small round, press a little in the center of each round to make a depression, put some grated cheese in it and again shape them into a round ball.
  5. In heating oil, deep fry few balls at a time till they turn golden brown from all the sides. Drain on oil absorbent paper napkins and serve hot with green chutney, tomato ketchup or sweet chilli sauce.

Notes

If you want, you can roll the balls in the bread crumbs till they are evenly coated from all the sides, and then there is no need to add breadcrumbs in potato mixture. Insert a toothpick or a bread stick to make the cheese balls look more appealing to your little ones. You can even give these balls the shape of your choice, such as oval, triangle, etc. You can add fine chopped green chilies too.
