Potato Tikki Recipe is the simplest version of Aloo Tikki or the Cutlets which can be easily made at home with Boiled Potatoes, Chana Dal and Spices. These Potato Tikkis is the famous Evening Snack or Chaat dish in India, and is generally served with various Chole Recipes.

Potato Tikki is a versatile Indian Dish that is liked by all age groups, you can make it in several different ways. Kids like to carry these delicious Potato Tikkis in their School Tiffin.

In North India, these Potato Tikkis are generally served with Chole (spicy chickpea curry), garnished with onions, sweet Tamarind-Jaggery Chutney and hot Green Chutney made from green chilies and coriander.

These Aloo Tikkis/ Cutlets can be made with variety of different fillings, they can be fried, roasted or even shallow fried. You can enjoy them as it is with Bread slices and green chutney. Today I’m adding some boiled Chana Dal in my Aloo Tikkis, sometime I use Green Peas too, green Peas also tastes good in these tikkis.

Boil the Potatoes completely in a pressure cooker.

Peel the skin of boiled potatoes and mash them in a big bowl.Potato Tikki Recipe Step 2

Add Red Chili Powder, Turmeric Powder, Amchur Powder, Coriander Powder, Garam Masala Powder, Cumin Powder and Salt to taste. Potato Tikki Recipe Step 3

Now finally add boiled Chana Dal and fine chopped fresh Coriander Leaves.Potato Tikki Recipe Step 6

Mix all the ingredients thoroughly and make a fine potato mix. Take good amount of prepared potato tikki mixture in hand and with the help of tikki/patty mould, make round or heart shaped patties, just like shown in images.

Heat oil in a frying pan, place 2-3 tikkis at a time in hot oil. Keep the flame low and shallow fry for about 5-6 minutes on both sides till the tikkies are cooked well.

Potato Tikki Recipe

Potato Tikki Recipe is simply made with boiled and mashed Potatoes, Chana dal and Spices. It is a famous Indian Snack Dish served with Chole Recipes.

Ingredients

  • 8 boiled potataoes
  • 1/4 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram), cooked and drained
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp amchur powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 2 tbsp bread crumbs
  • Fine chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for shallow frying

Instructions

  1. Mash the boiled potatoes in a big bowl and mix in 1/4 cup cooked chana dal, 2 fine chopped green chilies, 1/2 tsp red chili powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp amchur powder, 1/2 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala powder, 1/2 tsp cumin powder, 2 tbsp bread crumbs, some chopped coriander leaves and salt to taste. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly.
  2. Take good amount of prepared potato tikki mixture in hand and with the help of tikki/patty mould, make round or heart shaped patties, just like shown in images.
  3. Heat good amount of oil in a frying pan and place 2-3 tikkis at a time in hot oil.
  4. Keep the flame low and shallow fry for about 5-6 minutes on both sides to crispen crust.
  5. Serve hot with Chole, Coriander Chutney or with Tomato Ketchup.

Notes

You can do several variation in this potato tikki, sometimes add boiled green peas, soft paneer, etc. You can even make these potato tikkis without adding cooked chana dal, then too they taste great. Variety of Chole Recipes, like punjabi chole, peshawari chana, etc can be serve with this. Kids like these potato tikkis with bread slices and tomato ketchup. You can prepare the raw tikkis in advance, and then cook or fry them just before serving. These tikkis can be served with tamarind chutney and cilantro chutney.
