Kadhai Paneer Recipe is an exotic recipe blended with green bell peppers and lots of other flavors. Fried paneer is cooked in the combination of red and white gravy really makes this recipe irresistible.

It is one of the most popular recipes in Punjab and is to be served with roti or naan. This recipe is known for its unique name in every restaurant and most of the restaurants in Mumbai serve this dish in their copper made kadhai’s. I have made this recipe with home made paneer, let’s have a quick look.

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Servings: 3

Ingredients:

  • 250 gm cubes of paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese)
  • 2 capsicums coarsely chopped
  • 2 onions coarsely chopped
  • 4 tomatoes chopped
  • 4 green chillies chopped
  • 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 8-10 cashew nuts
  • 2 tsp peanut oil
  • 1 cup fresh curd
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 2 tsp kasuri methi
  • 1/2 lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep fry
  • 2 tsp puree ghee
  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh cream

How to make Kadhai Paneer:

  1. Soak Cashew Nuts inĀ  warm water for 10-15 min and grind them into a fine paste.
  2. Melt ghee or oil in a pan and cumin seeds, green chillies and ginger-garlic paste and saute well.
  3. Add chopped onion and cook for a minute on medium high flame.
  4. Add tomatoes and capsicum.
  5. Add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder, and cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Add cashew paste and curd, mix well.
  7. Add 1/2 cup water and stir for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Add garam masala powder and mix all the spices well in the veggies.
  9. Now add pieces of paneer along with kasuri methi and cook for 2 minutes.
  10. Cook on low flame so that the aroma of spices blends in paneer.
  11. Add lemon juice and mix well.
  12. Kadhai Paneer is ready to serve.
  13. Garnish with 1 tsp of fresh cream and fresh coriander leaves.
  14. Serve hot.

Chef Tips:

  1. You can fry the pieces of paneer just before adding into gravy.
  2. If your paneer is frozen then keep it out in warm water for few minutes. Your paneer will turn soft.
